A turbulent week for Aston Villa ended with what could prove to be a precious point on a largely forgettable afternoon in the Midlands, where the only rays of light came from the sun occasionally peering over the top of the Trinity Road stand.
This was one of those occasions when the game was every bit as disappointing as the scoreline suggests. Paul Lambert, however, will be grateful for small comforts. The Villa manager saw his side bring to an end a run of four successive Premier League defeats and, in the process, move five points clear of the relegation zone.
